Burton is repairing and fighting on
After suffering damage to the edge of his IMOCA, at the hull to deck joint where his jockey pole is mounted Louis Burton reported this afternoon "The boat is badly damaged but I think I'm going to repair it, I'm going to do it at sea.
He reported in his video today, “Early last night (editor’s note: Saturday 16 November), the wind was finally starting to come in for our Westerly option. It was going really well, I was neck and neck with Jérémie Beyou and Yoann Richomme, with the big gennaker on the jockey-pole. And then, there was a strong wind, I bore away to unload the boat. There was a first crack, followed by two more. I quickly realised something was wrong,” says Burton.
After quickly going around the boat and then taking time at first light to check everything he noticed significant damage. "Even though I'm really disappointed because the race was going really well, the boat was ready. And so here here we go for many hours of repairs. We're not giving up!" continues Burton.
He has already been working on the cracks on the aft deck and part of the port hull side, the interior and exterior are being sanded and ground before gluing carbon parts to secure everything.
