Vendée Globe 2024: CLS ice watch for skippers' safety
CLS, Official Supplier to the Vendée Globe 2024
CLS is providing the Vendée Globe with its expertise in radar satellite data processing, altimetry (sea level measurement) and ocean current modeling to detect the presence and predict the drift of icebergs around Antarctica.
Over the last four editions of the Vendée Globe, icebergs that could threaten the skippers' course have been detected by CLS, whose mission is to identify the most dangerous zones. The subsidiary of the French space agency works with the race directors to define the exclusive Antarctic zone. The company puts its teams of analysts and experts at the service of the race and its safety.
CLS's VIGISAT antenna network keeps a close eye on the ice for the Vendée Globe 2024
From its operations center in Toulouse, France, CLS collects data from nearly 400 satellites.
Thanks to its network of VIGISAT stations, including the one based in Brest, a unique infrastructure in France, CLS acquires high-resolution radar satellite images, and detects icebergs using algorithms developed specifically for ice.
