New 2028 project: Ambrogio Beccaria with sponsor Mapei

On Wednesday, Ambrogio Beccaria made official his ambition to take part in the Vendée Globe 2028. With Mapei as his title partner, the Italian skipper will be taking the helm of the ex-VULNÉRABLE, the 2024 generation IMOCA with which Thomas Ruyant finished 7th in the last solo round the world race.

Even though he is taking his first steps in the IMOCA class, Beccaria is nevertheless a redoubtable sailor. Winner of the 2019 Mini Transat, he then quickly established himself as a key figure in Class40 by taking 2nd place in the 2022 Route du Rhum (behind Yoann Richomme), and winning the Transat Café de l'Or (ex Transat Jacques Vabre) and The Transat CIC in 2023.

In the coming months, Ambrogio will be competing in The Ocean Race Europe and the Transat Café de l'Or 2025 with Thomas Ruyant. This six-month collaboration will enable him to get to grips with his new boat before setting sail solo.

I've never had the courage to dream so big. Having the opportunity to continue what I started in the Mini 6.5 on the IMOCA circuit is a great privilege. Ever since I crossed the Atlantic for the first time, I've always dreamed of arriving here with an IMOCA project.
