From the moment it began, the Vendée Globe race has belonged to the hearts of our French département. Along with the Département de la Vendée, the town of Les Sables d’Olonne, the company SODEBO and the Région des Pays de la Loire, some thirty large companies from the Vendée department have come on board, making the Vendée the organiser of one of the greatest races in the world.
The bet has been largely successful since the Vendée Globe is no only a big sporting event but it is also followed in France and abroad by numerous enthusiasts who go far beyond sailing lovers. The Vendée Department multiplies the initiatives and more particularly for the youngest through the Vendée Globe Junior, an educational programme, to ensure that the Vendée Globe remains a public good and is open to all.
If the Vendée Globe is the symbol of the dynamism of the Vendée Department, it ensures in return that it will benefit from the economic and tourist activities of the utmost importance.
More than 2 million people have come to the Vendée for attend the start and finishes of the 2016 edition. Dozens of thousands of reports or articles have been devoted to the Vendée Globe race or Department.
The 2024 edition should once again reach records and already, many skippers dream of becoming a legend. by crossing the line for the next start on 10 November 2024 and to beat the record of 74 days set by Armel Le Cléach.
