Nicolas Lunven, French solo skipper of Holcim-PRB is off to an incredible start to his first Vendée Globe. Between the second and third days of the solo race round the world he has set a new 24h distance record. Lunven chose a more westerly route than the rest fleet and benefited from more wind and a more direct course.
He has just covered 546.60 nautical miles* in 24 hours, or 1,012.30 km, again conforming the exceptional potential of Holcim-PRB. The boat already holds the crewed 24-hour distance record, covering 640.48 miles on the 5th leg of The Ocean Race in 2023, with an average speed of 26.68 knots.
Lunven surpasses the record set by Thomas Ruyant during last winter’s Retour à la Base event (540 miles).
As the Vendée Globe has only just begun, the record might well be beaten on this course.
