Louis Burton safely into Cape Town

After officially announcing his retirement from the race on November 4th after sustaining serious damage to a mechanical element of his IMOCA's rigging, Louis Burton, who had previously deployed considerable energy to repair a major crack on the deck of his boat, reached the South African port of Cape Town yesterday morning. Once the necessary repairs have been carried out, the sailor and his team will deliver the boat to Saint-Malo.

After a final cold night in light winds on the Bay of Biscay, Italy’s Giancarlo Pedote completed his second consecutive Vendée Globe when he crossed the finish line off Les Sables d’Olonne in 22nd place at 0834hrs today Tuesday 4th February. His elapsed time is 85 days, 20 hours and 32 minutes.
