The French Oceanographic Fleet sails the world's oceans from the coast to the open sea and from the sea’s surface to the deepest depths. This very large infrastructure provides researchers with access to the sea and to cutting-edge scientific and technological equipment to understand and protect the Ocean, our common good.

Equipped with seventeen ships and six underwater vehicles, it is a source of French national pride. Open to the entire French scientific community, to European and international partnerships, it contributes to the excellence of fundamental and applied research in the fields of marine science and technology.

It also carries out surveillance or public service missions on behalf of the State, and its teams are called upon as part of partnerships with companies.

Known as Green Marine Europe, committed to a strategy of reducing its environmental footprint, it is a focal point for innovations designed in collaboration with the scientific community, carried out in partnership with French companies.

Operated by Ifremer and its subsidiary Genavir, it is one of the five largest oceanographic fleets in the world. Nearly one hundred and fifty expeditions are carried out each year by sailors and scientists.
