Vendée Globe :
Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Gilles, I will be forty years old in three days. I work in IT as a web developer, and I live in the Lyon region. I have two children aged 8 and 12. My wife also plays Virtual Regatta, and we were rivals on this Vendée Globe.
Vendée Globe :
How did you start playing Virtual Regatta?
I discovered Virtual Regatta during the 2020 Vendée Globe while in lockdown. I got interested in the game, I took a break, and returned for this edition of the Vendée Globe. There are many interactions within the gaming community, and I learned everything along the way. Winning requires some intuition and a bit of luck.
Vendée Globe :
How were your days of "sailing" organized for 75 days?
When I begin something, I fully commit to it. Initially, I did not have a fixed routine. Everyone aims to win. In early January, as I found myself leading and nearing the finish line, I realized there might be an opportunity. From then on, I did not miss a single update. Specifically, I made my final adjustments around midnight, woke up at 4:30 am, and logged in several times a day, adjusting my schedule with the flexibility of teleworking.
Vendée Globe :
Did you follow the Vendée Globe before that?
It was Virtual Regatta that led me to follow the Vendée Globe. I appreciate the adventurous aspect of this race. I followed the race, particularly the boats near me on the course. I watched Vendée Live, especially the weather reports and the Virtual Regatta chronicles.
Vendée Globe :
You were able to enjoy Clarisse Crémer’s return up the channel. How did you experience this moment?
I do not sail and I have no connection with sailing. For me out in the channel the waters were calm, and the weather was lovely, adding to the experience. Being part of the whole event was a memorable experience. I had followed a few finishes on YouTube, so I kinda knew what to expect, but being at the event was more impressive.
