Damage on board the IMOCA Bureau Vallée (updated)

This Saturday, November 16 at 2200hrs UTC when he was sailing in the leading group of the western option Louis Burton informed his shore team and the Vendée Globe race management that he had just heard a very worrying noise: a "big crack" on board the IMOCA Bureau Vallée.

After taking all the necessary precautions and carrying out a series of checks, he realised there were  cracks on the deck of the boat where the jockey pole meets the deck which it was first thought might affecting the structural integrity of the boat. But while there was some water ingress to start, Louis is reported to be making repairs.

Ed note: the jockey pole is a carbon strut which extends from the side of the boat to support the sheet at a wider angle, keeping it away from the boat and therefore keeping the powerful back of the sail at a more efficient angle
