Double verification of positions
To ensure optimal monitoring of the skippers, the race management team uses beacons that transmit the positions of the boats every 30 minutes to their tracking software. These same positions ensure that the cartography is updated for the general public every 4 hours. In addition, for this 10th edition of the Vendée Globe, there is the AIS position system from MarineTraffic. The AIS (Automatic Identification System) is mandatory on IMOCAs, all professional vessels, and a large proportion of pleasure boaters are equipped with it. This double verification of positions ensures better reliability of the data, thus strengthening the organization's ability to effectively monitor the entire fleet.
A global vision of maritime traffic
Thanks to MarineTraffic, the race management can also monitor maritime traffic surrounding the IMOCAs in real time. With this partnership, the Vendée Globe confirms its primary mission: ensuring the safety of skippers, by equipping itself with the best tools available on the market for tracking races all around the globe.
