CLARISSE CRÉMER WELCOMED BACK TO THE HEART OF LES SABLES D'OLONNE

The contrast was stark. Between the tough weather and sea conditions which on Monday had robbed Clarisse Crémer of the possibility of returning into the Les Sables d’Olonne channel and a beautiful Saturday afternoon as January turned to February, there was a world of difference.

Crémer was granted a lovely afternoon and a warm, warm welcome. There were thousands of people turned out to cheer the 35-year-old racer who has forged a very special bond with the Vendée Globe public.

Six days ago, Clarisse Crémer crossed the finish line of her second Vendée Globe, off Les Sables d’Olonne, in 11th position. But storm Herminia did not let her get into the famous channel and she had to divert to a Rochelle.

But this afternoon she kept her overdue appointment with the Vendée Globe public. She had a huge crowd gathered on both sides of the channel

 

In the end, I really won twice: I had two finishes! What joy in this channel. It's true that having been able to rest a little between my two finishes, I appreciate it all the more. It's just the party, we celebrate with everyone, it's so great! This Vendée Globe was like a gift. There were inevitably difficult moments, it's never magical all the time, but it went beyond my expectations and I have no regrets. I never did things by halves at sea, it was all the time – always full on!
