A rich and varied educational package

There are 72 digital sheets to download from cycle 1 to cycle 4, to learn all about the history of the race, the sailors jobs, and the marine environment. There is also a web series, games and activities for the whole family, as well as scientific events (with the Vendée Globe's partner scientific organisations such as IFREMER, Polar Journal, the TAAF (French Southern and Antarctic Territories) and the CNES).

A growing audience

Since the launch of this edition, the vendeeglobejunior.fr site has already recorded more than 3 million views, exceeding the figures of the 2020 edition (2.8 million views as at February 2021).

Among the most visited pages:

  • The educational space, bringing together educational resources, with nearly 1 million views.
  • The page dedicated to the follow-up of the race, totalling 500,000 views.
  • The pages dedicated to the skippers, with 400,000 views.

A promising international start

The Vendée Globe Junior is also building up well on the international stage with lots of content now available in English. This initiative aims to reach an English-speaking audience but also to encourage young French people to practice their English. As a result, the English version of the site attracted more than 40,000 visitors, or nearly 5% of the overall audience.

Overall, 15% of the site's visitors are from abroad, compared to 8% in the previous edition. Of these, 2.5% come from the United States or the United Kingdom, and 2.5% from Germany.

Vendée Globe Junior: Firmly anchored in the Vendée

The Vendée Globe Junior is not limited to digital technology: it is deeply rooted in the Vendée region, offering local students unique educational experiences at the heart of the event.

From 4 to 8 November, 110 classes, i.e. 2,900 pupils from CM1 to 3e, benefited from an immersive visit to the Vendée Globe start village. Supervised by the mediators of the Departmental School of Arts and Heritage (EDAP), the students discovered the dedicated scenographic spaces, visited the pontoons and explored the boats, thanks to an approach adapted to their age and school level.

A new feature: live meetings with the skippers

Since 25 November, 2,000 pupils from the Vendée, spread over 183 classes, have been taking part in mediations organised after the start of the race. They have the opportunity to attend the skippers' sessions live, to explore the legendary T-One-One, the Imoca of Titouan Lamazou, winner of the first Vendée Globe in 1989-1990, and to take part in scientific workshops on the Paracou beach in La Chaume.

The aim of these activities is to introduce the race and to raise awareness among young people of the importance of preserving the oceans and the biodiversity of the Vendée coast.

In total, nearly 5,000 students and accompanying persons will have had enriching experiences, thanks to the mediations offered by the Department, anchoring the event even more in the heart of the Vendée and its younger generations.

With accessible, fun and instructive resources, the vendeeglobejunior.fr site has become a reference for teachers and a unique space for families. By combining human adventure and environmental awareness, it contributes to transmitting the values of the Vendée Globe to new generations, in France and beyond.
