Just as she was getting off to a great start in the race, with Samantha Davies to fight with, her large MHO gennaker unexpectedly unfurled, depriving her of this precious head sail. A definite disadvantage in light airs, but Clarisse is doing well and is in constant communication with her team to stay focused on managing the situation.
“I was pretty happy with my race and quite proud of my manoeuvres and trajectories, even if some of them were guided by caution. Without this sail, the next few days downwind in light airs aren't going to be much fun. I've lost a lot of energy but there's still a long way to go!”
After a sleepless night - she is trying to rest and then re-group to continue the charge down the Atlantic.
A difficult night for Clarisse
The slowdown she was expecting didn't come from where she thought: at around 0400 UTC last night, Clarisse Crémer lost her biggest sail off the coast of Portugal.
