Broken D2 shroud on board New Europe

Yesterday, Saturday December 14, Hungarian skipper Szabolcs Weöres discovered that his starboard D2 diagonal shroud has broken. This happened while he was sailing New Europe on port tack in strong winds gusting to over 40 knots. The shroud is an important cable which partly supports the upper mast.
The skipper ‘Szabi’ is not injured and the boat itself has no damage. He took a third reef in the mainsail and gybed, which has allowed him to keep his mast and rigging safe. He is currently 450 miles from Cape Town.

More information to come.
