Alan Roura and the little voice

Alan Roura (Hublot, 17th) is happy. The Swiss skipper caught up with the trio of Romain Attanasio (Fortinet BestWestern, 14th), Damien Seguin (Groupe APICIL, 15th) and Jean Le Cam (Tout commence en Finistère – Armor Lux, 16th) in the space of three days. He's enjoying it, as evidenced by this message he sent us:

Balance man! Cadence man! Follow the softer winds man! It feels so good to be back, with 400 miles of deficit caught up in three days, I have tears in my eyes... I'm going to have to move my tank forward in the soft winds now!

To achieve this, Alan knows that he must be patient, calm and also deal with "his little voice":

Above all, don't touch anything! "It moves forward on its own with the little wind you have, so don't try to change anything", that's the little voice inside. And the second is: "Go to sleep, enjoy!" So I did both: I didn't touch anything, I slept and every time I looked at the heading and the speed, everything was rolling!

The feeling is of being on a conveyor belt: it's flat, it's gentle, it's pleasant... It's vacation! It's as if you've worked non-stop for several weeks (which is the case) and you're given a day off! It feels good! Going out on deck, getting some fresh air, going out for something other than adjusting a sail or checking the boat... There, you sit down, you look at the sea, the sun, you enjoy the scenery. It's so good!

Everything's going well on board, it's really great. I'm out of the ice zone so I don't have too many things to respect until the finish. And clearly, this zone doesn't help strategy.

For the moment I'm still making good progress, I'm upwind, so it's not so bad. I'm starting to really get closer to my friends, I'm really happy. Since Cape Horn, I haven't held back... The weather has helped me a lot in recent days, but I've really been able – and that's been the case for a long time – to sail at 100% of the boat's potential.

I'll be able to eat on the terrace today, and maybe even take the opportunity to read the beginning of a book! Coffee and Twix on the breakfast menu this morning.
